As we all know Facebook is a social media and networking site, where in you will find yourself expanding your professional network, boost your business and other opportunities like reconnecting friendships and kinships. Facebook is the place where people spend most of time these days more than their home, lol. There are loads of spammers who always try to steal your login and try to do a mess even I have faced many instances of this kind.
Remember Hackers have no mercy on you and they keep trying to rob you off your account so we must be proactive. Here are some of the listed security tips and measures to keep your account safe,
1. Login notifications:
This very new feature allows you to improve and approve devices or locations from which you login. If someone tries to hack into your account by using unapproved devices or locations then you will be receiving notifications of logins from the new devices or locations which will help you to save the name of the new device/location or report the violation.
How to gain access to this feature?
Go to the Account Settings page and click on “account security” at the bottom of the page, and choose the option to receive notifications of logins from new devices.
2. Never click suspicious links:
Never ever click any spam links, as these links could be spams, viruses or malwares that can hack your account to steal information and even Hackers can use your Facebook credits, which you have paid. Do not run any unknown .exe programs, if you are not sure of the purpose and requirement as this may crash your entire system down to nothing.
3. Avoid Phishing:
Phishing is an online attempt to risk the user by pretending a like page of an official Facebook login page this is done to gain access to your password. So be careful when you click on any links, double check that you are in facebook official home page only before you fill in the credentials.
4. Use a unique and strong password:
Choosing a strong password will include alphanumerical characters, numbers, letters and punctuations, which is at least six characters long and should be something that you will remember in ease but is difficult for others to guess.
5. Add a security question:
Adding a security question is one of the best ways to prevent your account from the hackers, even if they could decode your password, will have to go through a second step of decoding the answer to your security question. This is not an easy job, by that time you might find out someone is trying to hack into your account and can report to Facebook as well.
How you can get this done, is by going through the security question section, and choose the security question from your drop down menu to enter your answer. Do remember to enter answer which is not easy to guess by others and you also have the option of changing your security questions. This option comes in handy when your account is being compromised.
6. Help Facebook:
Facebook is committed towards protecting your account and your personal information that they have a standard set high for security, which aids in preventing from breaching security options and adopts standard encryptions to protect your account. Helping them in small ways by doing what they ask you to do, when in doubt of your accounts being compromised and reporting instantly of such instances will be of great help to Facebook.
7. Secure your browsing:
This opt-in security features aid in turning on the secure browsing by using https:// instead of the regular http://. This feature is still naïve, and may raise issues in identifying your devices despite being registered.
8. One time password:
This is another opt-in feature from Facebook, exclusively designed for their dedicated users like you, which helps in protecting both your account security, especially when you are logging in from a public portal without losing your original password that you created by racking and melting your brains. To receive a one-time password, while using a public portal, send a text message to 32665 typing “otp”, which will help you to receive a password, that has to be used within the first 20 minutes, after which will expire and need to send another SMS for a new password.
9. Alert, when you receive “Protect your Password” prompt:
This could happen for security reasons and therefore, the best thing to do is to use a onetime opt-in password option (mentioned above) to protect your account from potential threats.
10. Report abuse instantly:
This is the last but the most important tip you have to be proactive in reporting issues when people use abusive languages or when you see any sensitive issues as this can help Facebook to ban their accounts. You can also report abusive contents and multiple accounts that confuse you, who know they can be hackers.
